Hanky Panky Cocktail
The original recipe was created in the early 1900's by Ada "Coley" Coleman, head bartender at the Savoy Hotel in London. She created this bittersweet cocktail for the actor, director and producer, Sir Charles Hawtry.
A variation on a sweet martini, the Hanky Panky cocktail is a combination of Gin and Sweet Vermouth but with a distinctive herbal, bitter twist. This is achieved using Fernet-Branca, a bitter Italian digestivo, although in this recipe, we substitute this with Unicum liqueur. The optional addition of the Luxardo Maraschino liqueur, or freshly squeezed orange juice will cut through the strong herbal bitterness if required.
Ingredients:
45ml sweet vermouth
30ml London Dry Gin
30ml Unicum herbal liqueur
Optional: 15ml Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur or a dash of fresh orange juice
for garnish:
Orange zest twist
Method:
Add the ingredients into a mixing glass and stir until cold. Strain into a chilled Coupe or Nick and Nora glass.
Garnish with a twist of orange zest
