Classic Cocktail - Martinez

Martinez

Widely regarded as the direct predecessor of the Martini, the Martinez is considered a classic cocktail by the IBA (International Bartenders Association).

As with many cocktails, its true origins have been lost in time. However, we know that this cocktail has been around since 1884 as it has been featured in a drink guide from that time.

Whatever the origin, this is one of my favourite cocktails - try it for yourself and let us know what you think!

Ingredients:

45ml London Dry Gin (I also really like this with Hernö Navy Strength Gin, but this will be a little stronger!)

45ml Sweet Red Vermouth (like Cinzano Rosso)

5ml Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur

2 dashes Angostura Orange Bitters

To garnish:

Lemon Zest

Method:

Add all the ingredients to an ice-filled mixing glass and stir for about 10 seconds. Strain the cocktail into a coupette or cocktail glass and garnish with a strip of lemon zest.
