Bluecoat Barrel Finished Gin 70cl
An aged american dry gin, with delicious hints of caramel and whiskey
Bluecoat Barrel Finished Gin
With their Barrel Finished gin, Bluecoat have used an 18th Century barrel finishing process to develop their American dry gin into a delicious new drink
The gin rests in the new American oak barrels for a minimum of 12 months. This ensures the gin rests developing an additional depth of character and flavour. It makes it an intensely well rounded and complex gin.
With the additional process, the rounder, softer notes of the gin are enhanced - and additional flavours introduced. Hints of caramel, butterscotch and whisky come through, but these are not at the expense of the juniper and mild pepper inherent in the gin. Intensely fragrant, and vibrant - but deliciously mellow.

This is a delicious gin to savour slowly neat (maybe with an ice cube or two). However, it also stands up well to the introduction of tonic for a longer drink (stay neutral with this one - Double Dutch Indian Tonic works well).
For a cocktail. try a Martinez. In a mixing glass filled with ice, add 45ml of the gin, 45ml of Cinzano Rosso Vermouth, 5ml of Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur and 2 dashes of Angostura Orange Bitters. Stir well, strain into a cocktail glass and garnish with a twist of orange peel.
