Glenfiddich Fire & Cane Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Having been founded in 1886 by William Grant, the first whisky ran from their stills on Christmas Day in 1887.
The brand name comes from the location of the distillery, situated in the glen of the river Fiddich. In scots gaelic Glenfiddich means 'valley of the deer', hence the stag found on the bottles.
As part of their 'Experimental Series', Glenfiddich unveiled their Fire & Cane edition in the middle of 2018. The ethos behind this series is to question convention, and break boundaries.
Brian Kinsman (their Malt Master) gave some of Glenfiddich's peated single malt (initially matured in Bourbon barrels) a second three-month period finishing in rum casks. These he selected from a variety of Latin American countries, which worked well with the peatiness at the core of this whisky.
The resulting whisky may be experimental, and is definitely different. A bold infusion of campfire smoke and the sweetness of toffee.
On the nose there is the unmistakable soft peat notes, giving a light smokiness joined with toffee sweetness, fresh citrus and a hint of spice. The pallet is full of flavours reminiscent of a Highland peat campfire, bringing in oak and toffee. Sharp green fruits cut through this, refreshing the palate, before enticing the taste buds further with a touch of smoke and sweet baked apples. The finish leaves a lingering touch of sweetness and smoke.

Whisky is best enjoyed as you like it! And thats no different with this edition of Glenfiddich. We recommend trying with a few drops of water, or perhaps a single cube of ice.
However, as with any quality dram, room temperature and savoured slowly also works exceptionally well.
