Hendrick's Orbium Gin 70cl
A "strangely exquisite" gin that sits roundly in the palate
Hendrick's Orbium Gin
“It's what Hendrick's could taste like in a parallel universe"
Orbium is a new presentation of Hendrick's Gin from their master distiller Lesley Gracie. Nourished with additional extracts of quinine, wormwood and blue lotus blossom, the result is a strangely exquisite gin that sits roundly in the palate. It has to be said....it is certainly not for everyone.
Orbium contains the same distillates as Hendrick's Gin, with the same signature essences of cucumber and rose. But this gin has taken a whole new direction by adding additional flavours; quinine found normally within tonic (Gin & Tonic) and wormwood found in Vermouth (Martini Cocktail). But it is not quite Orbium yet, in other words it is not yet complete.....
The addition of Blue Lotus Blossom beautifully balances the overall flavour; but the trinity of essences together, create a complex gin with surprising clarity and a finish that is unusually long. This results in an unfamiliar flavour that has a strangely familiar character, designed to open up previously undiscovered dimensions of gin, while moving from floral to an entirely deeper and seductively bitter aftertaste.
Orbium is derived from the word 'orb', the plural for Orbis and the Latin for circle. It is inspired by Lesley's description of the liquid's journey. The plan of the spherical round flavor that Lesley describes from Hendrick's house style. It is beautifully presented in the same iconic apothecary style bottle that is now synonymous with Hendrick's, albeit in a luscious dark blue, bold door the handy essence of Blue Lotus Blossom. It also has an 'all-seeing eye' on it as a reference to the rounded nature of the liquid.
Two great options for this gin.
For an Orbium Soda, mix 50ml of Orbium with 150ml of Soda Water in a highball glass over ice. Garnish with a few slices of cucumber
Or how about trying an Orbium Martini cocktail? In a mixing glass, or cocktail shaker, combine 60ml of Orbium with 3ml of Dry Vermouth (we recommend Martini Extra Dry Vermouth) ice and lemon zest. Shake vigorously. Strain into a cocktail glass, and garnish with a slice of cucumber.
