House of Botanicals Old Tom Raspberry Gin 70cl
House of Botanicals Old Tom Raspberry Gin was officially launched in June 2019 as a seasonal exclusive, using locally grown Scottish raspberries, available from June to September.
They wanted to bring some balance to the sickly sweet drinks masquerading as Pink Gin, which have little or no noticeable taste of Juniper. After all, they were the ones that created the true Pink Gin which was given to Royal Navy Sailors as a remedy for sea sickness in the 19th Century. This is a true Gin with a subtle hint of natural raspberries alongside the other botanicals.
They use the same base as their other Old Toms which is distilled in London using juniper berries, angelica root, orris root, coriander seed, cassia bark, almond, orange peel and lemon peel. This is sent to The House of Botanicals where it is compounded further with saffron and raspberries and then lightly sweetened with refined cane sugar.
Nose: Light pink. Candied citrus, and piney juniper dominates with a subtle underlying note of cracked black pepper and raspberry.
Palate: Juniper and pine continues to dominate alongside citrus and spice, all enveloped in a creamy mouthfeel, which leads into a floral and tart raspberry finish.
Finish: Long and fragrant, lightly sweet, with the return of the cracked pepper and spice.
