Pienaar & Son Orient Gin

Located in the Silo district of Cape Town (South Africa), Pienaar & Son is a small craft distillery with a Master Distiller who is only in his 30's (his father has more than 40 years of distilling technology experience though!)

Whilst they honour tradition they are a forward looking distillery. Their equipment is all hand made locally, and they use (in their words) "processes based off cutting edge nerdy engineering principles developed by the chemical engineering brains behind the operation"

In their Orient Gin, Pienaar & Son have created a gin which pays homage to eastern spice trade, which influenced both the Cape Town culture and cuisine. Totally uninhibited, this is a gin which is packed with citrus and spice flavours. They use a neutral grain spirit in its making, which ensures its the carefully chosen botanicals which impart their flavours in the gin.

The signature botanicals in the Orient gin are cardamom, coriander and mandarin.

On the nose the spice and citrus both come through, hinting at the oriental influence of the gin. On the palate there is sweet vanilla and mandarin orange notes which complement fiery Cassia, Ginger and Allspice. The overal result is a truly bold and inspired gin

Perfect Serve

Delicious in combination with a premium Indian Tonic such as Franklin & Sons Natural Tonic Water (which has a hint of citrus). However, for something a little difference - try their Rhubarb & Hibiscus Tonic Water. This pairs perfectly with the spice and citrus found in the gin

Take a large glass filled with ice and add 50ml of gin. Gently pour over 150 - 200ml of your chosen tonic and stir gently. Garnish with a thin slice or two of orange peel and a few juniper berries.
