Portofino Gin

Using 21 ingredients, which are sourced from the hills surrounding Portofino, this truly is a gin inspired by the terroir of the riviera. The bottle itself depicts Portofino, which is a picturesque village in Liguria, Italy. Clustered around a small harbour with brightly painted buildings this truly evokes a sense of the Italian Dolce Vita (sweet life).

Launched in 2019, the gin itself is produced at the Antica Distilleria, near to Portofino in Quaglia (an historic distillery. Here they also produce reknowned vermouths and bitters). Each botanical is carefully selected, and then individual macerated in wheat alcohol for 7 days. They then utilise a blend of traditional (a copper still), and rotovapor distillation methods on these botanicals before finally blending. 

The gin uses the botanicals perfectly to evoke an Italian midsummer; with aromatic juniper, juicy lemons, herbaceous notes of rosemary, marjoram & sage, and then floral notes from lavender, iris and rose.

This is a deliciously light and dry gin with fresh citrus, heady floral and herbaceous notes which when combined give it its truly Mediterranean character.

On the nose, the Juniper, lemon and floral rose notes come through perfectly. On the palate the florals create a backdrop of the herbaceous notes. Citrus, juniper and hints of fennel come through in the mid creating interest playing on the tongue. The finish brings a slight warmth with earthy notes from herbaceous bay and rosemary, and a light spice.

Perfect Serve

This gin works exceptionally well in a classic gin & tonic. The carbonation in the tonic helps to enliven the flavours and really bring it to life. Take a large glass and fill with ice before adding 50ml of the gin. Gently pour over 150ml of tonic (we recommend three cents tonic water), and stir gently. Garnish with a slice of lemon, and if available a sprig of lavender.
