Description
Ungava Canadian Premium Gin
The six rare botanicals used in the creation of Ungava gin grow in the Arctic tundra of Canada. It is these which give the distinct colour and taste.
In the far north of the Canadian province of Quebec, in the Arctic tundra you can find the Ungava Peninsula. This is an area of 350,000 km2 which surrounds Ungava bay. Covered in pristine snow and ice for almost 9 months of the year, its an area of outstanding beauty.
During the short growing season, these six botanicals grow. Each of these adds something to the overall flavour and aroma of Ungava.
Nordic juniper is a rare strain of juniper, and has the distinct pine in its aroma and flavour, but also fresh citrus. Labrador Tea has fragrant leaves and delicate white flowers. It confers floral and herbal aspects to the gin. Arctic Blend adds an underlying spiciness, along with a subtle coniferous aroma. Wild Rose Hip contributes to the signature yellow colour, whilst adding a slightly sweet citrus note. Crowberry (these resemble wild blueberries) adds a light acidity and bitterness, which balances out the other botanicals. Lastly, Cloudberry adds a fruity tartness to the gin.
This blend of botanicals are allowed to steep slowly, which gives the captivating aroma, complex flavour and distinct colour.
The nose of the gin has a distinct juniper / pine note, with an interesting citrus expression. The flavour is distinct. Bright and lively, as well as exceptionally smooth. It gives an aromatic balance of citrus and warm spice.
Perfect Serve
Whilst this works well with a dash of soda, or a neutral tonic, we love this with Fever-Tree Aromatic Tonic. In a large glass filled with ice add 50ml of the gin and 100-150ml of the aromatic tonic water. Stir gently, and garnish with a slice of grapefruit, some peppercorns and a sprig of rosemary.
