Bakers Best Genever 50cl
Baker's Best believe in the philosphy of "From waste to pure taste" and use unsold bread to create malt wine, and then this delicious genever!
Description
Bakers Best Genever
From the distillation process, which uses unsold bread from the local baker, to the bottle made from recycled glass with a label made of wood - this is a genever which aims to reduce and reuse!
More than 120,000,000 kilos of bread are thrown away every year in the Netherlands. This is equivalent to 70 million euros. You could say a waste of money, but this also has serious consequences for the environment. Consider the energy in the cultivation, packaging, transport, cooling and preparation of the bread that is wasted. To counter this, an eco-friendly old genever has been developed.
"Waste cannot be seen as an end product, residual flows of a product can form the basis of a new product."
This is Bakers Best's philosophy. The genever gives discarded bread a second life. From French bread to sourdough and from brioche bread to a multi-grain bun. All the unused bread from the local bakeries is used. One bottle of Bakers Best genever is good for saving between 7 and 9 slices of bread.
This bread is then used to make the malt wine which forms 25% of this genever. As this is made from bread, each batch will have a slightly different aroma and flavour.
On the nose there is a delice spiced nutty aroma, with definite aromas of bread. The taste is dry, with piney juniper notes which are joined by nutty bread flavours. There is a light, yet noticeable spiciness of cardamom and pepper
