Monkey 47 - Schwarzwald Sloe Gin
In creating their Sloe Gin, Monkey 47 have taken inspiration both from their Black Forest location and British history. This gives it a truly unique complexity, whilst retaining and builing on the British heritage.
They believe that "Schwarzwald sloe gin is a true MONKEY 47, but nevertheless a whole different one". To this end, it is still distilled in small batches, utilising 47 unusual and regional botanicals (like it's big brother). It's then macerated with wild-grown, and hand-picked sloe berries from the Black Forest.
This has a delicious complex and very aromatic aroma, which is noticed immediately upon pouring. It's full of sweetened, fruity flavours but retains a juniper note.
The flavour has an earthiness to it, which is very comforting. The juniper plays perfectly with sweet red berry flavours from the sloes. Hints of almond come through as the gin comes to it's finish, with a nutty tartness to it.

Perfect Serve
Sloe gins can easily be enjoyed slowly on their own, as they are sweeter with a lower abv. However, they definitely work well in the mix too - creating a fruity and refreshing drink. Try with a classic tonic (such as Fentimans Premium Indian Tonic), or for a ginger kick - with a ginger ale.
Take a large glass and fill with ice. Pour over 50ml of the sloe gin, and add 150ml of your chosen tonic. Stir gently, and garnish with a slice of lemon.
