Wilderer Gin

Wilderer is South Africa's first private distillery and the team refuses to compromise when it comes to the integrity of their product. It was founded in 1995 by Helmut Wilderer, a German restaurateur. Today, now run by Helmut's son Christian, they continue to produce not only gin, but also Grappa and Eaux de Vie, and export worldwide.

Not only are Wilderer South Africa's first private distillery, they are also one of the most awarded, both domestically and worldwide, with over 100 international medals and awards, including many Gold and Double Gold Medals.

At the centre of Wilderer Fynbos Gin is their desire to be in harmony with nature as much as possible. They use the purest wine spirits, water from the Franschhoek mountains and the unique botanicals found in the Fynbos regions (including Buchu, Honeybush, Wild Dagga, and Devil's Claw). These are combined to make this delicious Cape Gin, an authentic South African speciality.

The aroma is enticing, and it boasts a very well-balanced assortment of herbs, spices and refreshing zest on the nose. On the palate the juniper is prounouced, but this doesnt detract from the Cape Fynbos botanicals, which provide a delicious depth and complexity.

Perfect Serve

This is a gin we found could easily be enjoyed slowly and sipped neat over ice.

However, we found this really came to life in a longer classic Gin & Tonic. Take a large glass filled with ice, and pour in 50ml of the gin. Gently pour over 200ml of your chosen tonic (we liked Fever-Tree Premium Indian with this one) and stir gently. To really bring it to life, garnish with a pack of Secco Pepper Berry Infusion garnish.
