Description

Iron Balls Engineered Gin

It's not just the distinctly shaped bottle which stands out with this gin, but also the base alcohol used in creating this amazing gin from Thailand.

The initial alcohol base is created by fermenting and distilling two very Thai ingredients - Pineapple and Coconut. This creates a distinct vodka, which they then use as the base for their gin.

Whilst the full blend of botanicals used is a secret, it is known that they include Black Pepper, Cinnamon, Coriander, Ginger, Ginseng, Juniper (it is after all a gin), Lemongrass, Mace and Nutmeg. These are left to infuse their base spirit for a minimum of seven days at air temperature. This ensures the natural essences and flavours from the botanical blend are extracted.

Once this is complete, they add pulped pineapple to the base of the still, and slowly vapour infuse. This is done slowly, and at a low temperature to ensure the pineapple doesn't burn. Once this process is completed, they bottle and label by hand.

The result is a gin which has a clean and fruity, sweet aroma on the nose. This is completemented by lemongrass and orange zest. The flavours are mild, with nothing shouting too loudly on the palate. There is a lot of fruit flavours like mango, tangerine and the pineapple. These are not too sweet though, and are complemented by warmings spices (cloves, made and ginger).  For those who are not overly fond of juniper, whilst present this isn't overpowering.

Towards the end the flavours fade, leaving lemongrass with clears the palate - leaving a refreshing feeling.

Perfect Serve

This is a mild, and delicious gin on its own - and whilst it works in cocktails, it should be noted that the other spirits tend to overpower the delicate notes in this gin. We recommend this is enjoyed in a classic gin & tonic.

Take a large glass (ideally a Copa glass, or large wine glass) and add 50ml of the gin. We recommend a neutral tonic such as Double Dutch Indian Tonic Water, for this one - and 100 - 150ml of it. Gently pour into the glass and stir gently. Garnish with a thin slice or two of pineapple and a few fresh basil leaves.
