Amarula African Gin 70cl
A delicious African gin, made with the Marula fruit
Description
Amarula African Gin
Perhaps known best for their delicious cream liqueurs which are made from the fruit of the Marula Tree (from which the name comes), Amarula have now included a Gin in their range.
The correct combination of botanicals needed to be found to blend with the unique flavour of the Marula fruit. As well as the Marula fruit (which are grown in the wild and hand-picked) and Juniper, Orange Blossom, Orange Peel and Grains of Paradise are used. These additional botanicals are allowed to steep in marula spirit, which is then distilled in a pot still. This ensures the delicate flavours are all allowed to shine through.
The result is a gin which is complex and refreshing. The juniper, whilst definitely present is gentle - and doesn't over-power the other flavours. Subtle orange blossom gives floral, fragrant nuances whilst the peppery Ghanaian grains of paradise help balance the sweetness from the fruit.
Overal a complex and refreshing gin offering a sweet orange flourish with a spicy backbone.
Good to Know: Amarula has its own charitable fund, the Amarula Trust which raises funds for conservation, safeguarding, and education projects - all of which are dedicated to elephant protection.

Perfect Serve
This is best served with a classic Indian tonic (ensuring the flavours in the gin are not over-powered). We liked this with Thomas Henry Tonic Water, but any classic neutral tonic will work well.
Take a large glass filled with ice and add 50ml of the gin. Gently pour over 150 - 200ml of your chosen tonic and stir gently. Garnish with a slice of fresh grapefruit (or dried if you don't have fresh available).
