Brugse Whisky Ryggia Unleashed
The name Ryggia is Old Norse for the Canals of Bruge. In this language it referred to wild, untamed beasts. This was due to the fact that at that time, these waterways were (allegedly) wild and dangerous (far from how they are today!).
To create their Ryggia Unleashed edition, the team at Brugse Whisky took their whisky and aged it for 3 years in a Bourbon Cask. This was then finished for 5 - 6 months in casks which had been used to hold red peppers - most definitely unleashed!
Not only is there a kick in this whisky from its time in the ex-chilli casks - but also it is bottled at 60.2%. The taste is special and unique. At the start there is a definite taste of chocolate (also something Bruges is known for), which then i awakened by a very fresh touch of lemon. A little black cherry, and an almost floral note come through too. At this point the pepper comes through - which is definitely spicy, but light in its effect - and certainly awakens the taste buds!
This is a strictly limited release of only 498 bottles. Only 100 of these were released outside Belgium. When they're gone.... they're gone!
