Description

Cuckoo Sunshine Gin

All of the Cuckoo family of Gins are produced at the Brindle Distillery, in the British County of Lancashire (in the north-west of England). Here they produce their gins using all natural ingredients (where possible sourced locally, or grown on their own farm), as well as making use of fresh spring water which comes from an artesian aquifer located in the field next to their distillery.

They also ensure sustainability in everything they do, from utilising ethical and sustainable sources for their botanicals, to using biomass boilers to power their still (known as Maggie). And if that wasn't enough, they also make animal feed for their farm or compost from the waste botanical products.

For their Sunshine Gin, Cuckoo have taken inspiration from an unmistakably Lancashire term "Hello Sunshine!" (an expression used to greet a loved one). It fast became their best-selling gin, and remains it to this day.

This gin is a deliciously honey sweetened fruity gin. They have used natural honey, and deliciously ripe raspberries as the key flavours (both of which come from their own farm). These are backed up with a strong presence of juniper and lemon which balances the sweetness from the honey. Almonds and vanilla help give a creaminess to the gin and another hint of sweetness. Angelica, orris root, cinnamon and orange round out the more traditional botanicals.

The result is a deliciously vibrant gin. Juniper, crisp lemon and sharp raspberry flavours lead on the palate, after which a creamy sweetness comes through. There is a delicate note of spice which intrigues the tongue.

Perfect Serve

This gin works perfectly with the sweetness found in Fever-Tree Mediterranean Tonic. If you want to keep the sugar content down, their refreshingly light version also works well.

Take a large glass filled with ice and add 50ml of the gin. Gently pour over 150 - 200ml of your chosen tonic and stir gently. Garnish with a few fresh (or frozen) raspberries.
