Description

Dockyard Gin

Created by the Copper Rivet Distillery, in Kent - the location of the distillery has a rich tradition of innovation and craftsmanship. This area once produced world-class ships.

The story starts in 2005 when the Russell family began planning their distillery. It took much planning, but in 2015 they found the future home of Copper Rivet Distillery and the Victorian Pump House No. 5 in Chatham Maritime was purchased.

In 2016 they began distilling, but it wasn't until 2017 that they officially opened. On Friday 1st December, HRH The Princess Royal (the British Princess Anne) officially opened Copper Rivet Distillery in Chatham's Historic Docky. From that day they began selling exceptional whisky, gin and vodka.

For all of their spirits, including their whiskys only the best early harvest wheat, barley and rye are selected to be used. These are all grown within 20 miles of their home in Chatham, working with known farmers.

In creating their Dockyard gin, they have taken inspiration from the naval history of the area. Through this, they have crafted a delicious gin with subtle citrus, and hints of aromatic spice.

The carefully selected botanicals used are Italian Juniper berries, locally sourced elderflowers, Bulgarian Coriander seeds, Spanish orange peel, Italian lemon peel, Guatemalan green cardamom, African grains of paradise, Angelica root and Orris root, as well as their our own neutral grain spirit (produced in their distillery) and Kentish chalk filtered water.

The nose releases the cardamom early, with the lemon then arriving. Swiftly following this the juniper arrives - giving a true aroma of gin.

The palate is dry, with a citrusy floral top note to it. This develops into a lightly sweet, warm spicy mid notes. It finishes with a delicate floral expression

Perfect Serve

We found this worked well in cocktails (such as the Negroni, or Martini), but also equally enjoyable in a classic G&T.

Take a large glass filled with ice and add 50ml of the gin. Gently pour over 150 - 200ml of your chosen tonic (this worked well with both Fentimans Connoiseurs Tonic, or their Elderflower Tonic for a sweeter floral note). Stir gently, and garnish with a slice or lemon.
