Eden Mill Original Gin
With their distillery located on the tempestuous Scottish coastline in St Andrews, it's from this location that Eden Mill have taken inspiration. Sea buckthorn berries, an exceptionally hardy superfood that thrives in harsh, salty, coastal conditions is their stand out botanical in this gin. It has a unique tart berry flavour, and is immediately noticed when drinking. However they have perfectly balanced this using citrus notes taken from other botanicals used in the distillation, such as lemon balm and citrus peel.
The nose has a strong citrus aroma, with lemon balm, bitter orange and a touch of grapefruit coming through. The flavour has the sea buckthorn throughout, but this is complimented not just by the citrus but other intricate flavours. Delicate spices come through on the mid palate from coriander and clove. A touch of honeyed sweetness from lychee, pear and sweet orange towards the end.
Overall this is a really smooth gin, with no burn. Definitely classic, but also a definite contemporary Scottish twist to it.
Perfect Serve
This really deserves a premium tonic, and we recommend Fentimans Connoisseurs Tonic Water. Take a large glass filled with ice and add 50ml of the gin. Gently pour over the tonic, stir gently and garnish with a slice of grapefruit.
