Foxdenton 48 Gin 70cl
A deliciously citrus fuelled gin with a gentle floral note
Foxdenton 48 Gin
The Foxdenton Spirits & Liqueurs Company was created in 1935 by Major Charles Radclyffe. It was named after his ancestral home of Foxdenton Estate - which was acquired through marriage in 1367. The family had a history of hunting and shooting, and after these pursuits it was common to enjoy fruit liqueurs.
The current owner, Nicholas Radclyffe found these fruit liqueurs to be too sweet. So he began making these himself - using traditional English recipes with gin as a base. To his astonishment, these were enjoyed by others too. So, in collaboration with Thames Distillers he began by creating the perfect gin (this, their Foxdenton 48) for sale on its own, and to use in creating liqueurs.
For its production, a number of recipes were tested, before settling on this, their final choice. Their seven botanicals used are juniper berries, coriander seeds, lemon peel, lime blossom, angelica root, savory and orris root. It launched in 2009, and had been available since then - winning numerous awards and accolades. Their signature botanical used in this is lime blossom oil - this lifts this gin head and shoulders above its competitors giving a unique citrusy freshness.
The nose is fresh and clean, with piney juniper aromas, joined by gentle spice from angelica and coriander seeds. On the palate it's equally fresh, with a strong citrus zest flavour. There is definitely a traditional gin feel, dry and clean, with a hint of parma violets from the orris root.
The finish is, again, traditional, leaving a dry feel to the mouth and a distinct juniper note.

We loved this as a quality, classic gin & tonic. Take a tall glass filled with ice, and add 50ml of the gin. Squeeze in the juice from a quarter of a lemon and fill the glass with a quality tonic (we like this paired with Royal Bliss Signature Tonic, as the notes of cardamom and yuzu pair perfectly with the botanicals in the gin). Stir gently and enjoy!
