Johnnie Walker Blue Label Elusive Umami Whisky
Whilst Jonnie Walker make a number of different whiskies, it's their Blue Label which is the rarest.
They class the Blue Label as their masterpiece, a combination of the rarest and most exceptional of Scotland's whiskies. To create their latest special edition, their Master Blender (Emma Walker) joined forces with Michelin starred Chef Kei Kobayashi. This creation is journey to capture the 'elusive' fifth taste - Umami, or savouriness. This Umami taste possesses a mysterious quality that ignites our senses, revealing sumptuous taste, complexity and depth.
They have selected casks from the four corners of Scotland - inland and coastal distilleries which have been hand-picked at the height of their maturation for their unique umami profile. These whiskys include some from the so-called “ghost” distilleries.
This was definitely no easy task. Typically, only 1 in 10,000 casks succeed in making it into a bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue Label, but for this edition only one in 25,000 casks succeed in bringing this elusive character to life.
This is a whisky which has been perfectly balanced - through both the experience of a Master Blender, and a Master Chef. It is a beautifully balanced scotch which has both sweet and savoury flavours. You will experience notes of blood oranges and red berries, joined with sweet wood spice, a touch of smoked meat, and a hint of salt and pepper. This leads the taste buds to a sweet, fruity finish.

We particularly liked it served simply, at room temperature - as we found the flavours came alive more on the palate. However. as with all quality whiskies, enjoy this how you want to!
