Wessex Gooseberry & Elderflower Gin
Wessex was an anglo-saxon kingdom, which located in modern day southern england. Today, one of the current UK counties (Surrey) is located in this ancient kingdom. This is where the Wessex Distillery name comes from.
A family owned craft distillery, Wessex use premium ingredients. Where possible they source these from the English countryside, and distill in their copper still. They distill with a simple belief: "We believe the best English gin is made when passionate gin lovers take a no fuss approach, and quality ingredients".
Their Gooseberry & Elderflower gin is created using fresh gooseberry juice, and distilled elderflowers. This they do in their vacuum still to extract the delicate flavours at a lower temperature - thus ensuring a purer result.
As can be expected from the name of this gin, the main botanicals found in this gin are juniper, gooseberry and elderflower.
The result of this pairing is a deliciously fragrany, fruity and sweet gin. The sweet, zingy flavours come from the gooseberries, and are balanced by the floral notes from the elderflowers. The two pair perfectly, ensuring an enticing gin which isnt overpowering in its flavour profile.

Perfect Serve
We think this is best enjoyed simply, to allow its flavours to shine through. Wessex recommend an elderflower tonic, which enhances the flavours already in the gin - but we found it works equally well with a neutral tonic such as Fentimans Connoisseurs Tonic.
Whichever mixer you chose, take a large glass filled with ice and add 50ml of the gin. Gently pour over 150 - 200ml of your chosen tonic and stir gently. Garnish with a twist of lemon (which enhances the zesty gooseberry flavours).
For a celebration, try adding a measure (25ml) to your champagne, prosecco or other sparkling wine to add an fruity edge to your drink.
