Martell Blue Swift

Founded in 1715 by Jean Martell, the Martell Cognac house is the oldest of the 'big four' (the others being Courvoisier, Hennessy, and Rémy Martin).

Interesting Fact: Variations of the Martell logo, a swift in combination with the Martell family coat of arms, have been in use since the company started.

Their Blue Swift is made using VSOP cognac, which is then aged in Bourbon Casks. This is the first ever spirit made in this way.

Whilst not defined as a cognac (due to the differing ageing process), the eaux-de-vie absorbs rich aromatic flavours and aromas from the bourbon cask. The result maintains Martell's hallmark style - with delicate candied fruit and plum notes. However it is also brings by a subtle vanilla sweetness and toasted oak.

This gives the drink an exceptional smoothness, which whilst unique is well rounded and easy to enjoy.

Its vibrant copper colour releases aromas of  banana and caramelised pear, a hint of ivanilla, as well as coconut and spices.

It has a full flavour, which brings notes of ginger and candied fruits for which Martell is know. This follows with distinctive hints of toasted oak from the bourbon casks.

Perfect Serve

This is easily enjoyed on its own, however it makes delicious cocktails as well.

Try a Swift Old Fashioned. In a mixing glass add a few cubes of ice and then add 60ml of Blue Swift, 7.5ml of Sugar Syrup and two dashes of Aromatic Bitters. Stir well and strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a cocktail cherry.
