"British Gin, Japanese Heart" is how the creators of this gin describe it.
Distilled at the Thames distillery in London, this gin is created in a London Dry style. It uses a blend of classic gin botanicals, almond, angelica, coriander, juniper, lemon, licorice, orange and savory. However, the last botanical, Sansho Berry, is what gives this gin its Japanese heart.
Inspired by a trip to Japan, Kokoro's founder (James Nicol) was introduced to the Sansho Berry. This is used across a wide range of dishes in Japan, from deserts, to main courses and most everything in-between. This berry is camphorous and has a striking citrus note to it, and lends itself as the signature botanical - this is definitely a citrus forward gin.
On the nose this gin has a classic aroma to it, with juniper, coriander as well as orange citrus notes. In the mouth this has a rich, jam-like citrus flavour to it. The citrus notes play right through on this gin, with sweet lemon in the mid palate, and bitter orange in the finish. Licorice adds a slight sweet note, which is balanced by coriander, black pepper and juniper with its distinctive pine notes. The finish lends a warmth, perfectly tinged with the bitter orange.

Perfect Serve
This works well in a classic gin & tonic, or also in the mix (try making a Martini with this gin, and enjoy a greater citrus edge to it).
For a refreshing long gin & tonic, take a large glass filled with ice and add 50ml of the gin. Gently pour over 200ml of your chosen Tonic and stir gently. Garnish with a slice of orange.
