Old Sport Dry Gin 70cl
A contemporary Dry gin with a Greek twist
Description
Old Sport Dry Gin
Whilst not necessarily known for their gin's. Greece has a rich history in distilling. Old Sport Gin is made at the Callicounis Distillery, which was established in 1850.
The name itself is inspired by a quote from The Great Gatsby novel: "Want to go with me, old sport? Just near the shore along the Sound." The term 'Old Sport' is a term of endearment which (among the upper classes) is used to define a refined gentlemen. It is this character who is then portrayed on the bottle.
The botanicals they use are wild Juniper Berries, Angelica Root, Rosemary, Cardamom Seeds, Cinnamon Bark, Nutmeg, Orris Root, Licorice Root, Lemon Peel, Bitter Orange Peel, Coriander Seeds and Mastiha (a classic Greek botanical also used in cooking - which comes from the Mastic trees on Chios).
It's creation uses a triple distillation method which ensures a smoothness to the gin. During the first distillation five botanicals are added, at the second a further three, and in the last the Mastiha.
The gin itself is handcrated, adventurous yet gentle on the palate. It has a smooth, velvety texture and a gentle taste. Each of the botanicals used plays a part - but none overpower the palate. This is an easy to drink, classic gin - with a contemporary modern Greek twist.
Perfect Serve
This works perfectly when paired with the Greek Three Cents tonics, and we like it with both their Aegean Tonic, and the classic tonic water. Take a large glass filled with ice and add 50ml of the gin. Gently pour over 150 - 200ml of your chosen tonic and stir gently. Garnish with some juniper berries and a slice of orange.
