Grasshopper
A vibrant looking cocktail, its green colour (from mint) explains its name - buy doesn't hint at the delicious chocolate mint flavours which await in the glass!
Philip Guichet, the owner of the bar Tujague's (in the French quarter of New Orleans) is said to have invented the drink in 1918. As with most older cocktails, this can't be guaranteed - but we don't mind.... its the flavour that counts!
Simple to make, and definitely eye-catching, this became increasingly popular in the 1950's and 60's in America's deep south, before become more widely known across the world.
Ingredients:
30ml Crème de Cacao White
30ml Crème de Menthe
30ml Cream
for garnish:
A few fresh mint leaves
Method:
Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake well, and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
Garnish (if you desire) with a few fresh mint leaves
