Tequila Sunrise

Tequila Sunrise

Tequila Sunrise

Whilst the 'original' cocktail was created in the 1930's or 1940's, it was the re-interpretation created by Bobby Lozoff and Billy Rice in Sausalito, California in the early 1970s that is what we know today as the Tequila Sunrise cocktail.

A delicious summer drink (although easily enjoyed year round), it captures the 'essence' of a sunrise with graduated colours in the glass.

It's initial popularity stemmed from it being drunk by Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones during their 1972 tour of America. This followed in 1973 with the Eagles releasing a song called Tequila Sunrise, and then in 1988 Michelle Pfeiffer, Mel Gibson, and Kurt Russell starred in the Tequila Sunrise film. By this time it was a well known cocktail in bars around the world - becoming an IBA (International Bartenders Association) official.

Ingredients:

45ml Tequila Blanco (we like this with Sierra Tequila Blanco)

90ml Fresh Orange Juice

15ml Grenadine Syrup

Garnish:

Orange Slice

Cocktail Cherry

Method:

Fill a tall glass with ice, and add the Tequila and the Orange Juice - stir to mix. Gently pour the grenadine syrup slowly down one side of the glass. This creates the signature chromatic effect. Don;t stir!

Garnish with an orange slice, and a cocktail cherry.
